We’ve mentioned before the importance of brand awareness. It helps current and potential customers get to know you better, it builds trust, and it helps you build lasting relationships. But what does brand awareness have to do with SEO?
Report Finds Link Between SEO and Brand Awareness
While there’s no definitive answer about whether or not social media helps with SEO, these platforms do encourage sharing of content, which can help increase your organic traffic. This sharing of content also means that more people may come across your blogs or webpages, even if they weren’t looking specifically for your type of business.
A recent report found that, in general, 82 percent of people will choose a brand they’re familiar with, regardless of where that brand ranks within the search engine results page (SERP). What this means is that by using social media and other digital marketing platforms, you’re able to increase your brand awareness. The more your content is shared, the more people become of aware of who you are as a company. That prior knowledge of your business may be beneficial when they’re looking to do business with someone in your field.
This brand awareness and SEO connection does vary by age groups. Of the younger, independent participants, 91 percent made a selection based on brand recognition, and older participants with families ranked at 84 percent. In the “post-family” participant group, 67 percent would choose a brand they already knew about over other factors.
The Google algorithm is designed to show you the most relevant results for your search query, so it typically shows you brands you already know in the top spots anyway. But this isn’t always the case. In this instances, having that recognition is crucial.
Report Results Takeaways
As you can see from the results of this report, increasing brand awareness across various digital marketing platforms improves your visibility in both a Google search and on social media. This gives people more opportunities to find out about your company, so it’s important to maintain an updated website and blog with high-quality content, and it’s also important to share that content on your social media channels.
